Salah talks about new contract with Liverpool
“I feel great and [I am] excited to win prizes with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone,” Salah told LFC TV. “It takes some time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done, so we just need to focus on what’s next.
“I think you can see the team was always busy for the last five or six years [upwards]† Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately we lost two trophies in the last week of the season.
“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We also have new signings. We just have to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.”
What does this mean for Liverpool?
It gives Klopp continuity in the attack and calms everyone down.
After Sadio Mane’s loss this summer, many thought new summer signings Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz (who arrived in January) would put a heavy burden on their shoulders to replace Mane and possibly Salah.
Now Liverpool still have their talisman and Salah’s new contract alone means Klopp’s side can keep up with Manchester City and push them all over again for the Premier League title and other trophies.
There has clearly been a huge breakthrough in negotiations for Salah to sign this new deal, as there had previously been a deadlock over the strict pay structure in Liverpool. It will be intriguing to see how much more Salah has agreed to be paid for this new deal and whether or not Liverpool find themselves in a different situation regarding the wages they can offer players.
All that aside, this news is huge for Liverpool and hugely positive for Jurgen Klopp.
